Computer Anti-Virus Protection (Page 1 of 1) Back to Carlanell Home Back to Computer Help
If you do not have virus protection software installed and updated on your computer, it is possible for a virus to infect your machine via email EVEN IF YOU DO NOT OPEN any attachments.
The most reliable way to protect a computer from viruses is to do all of the following:
- Purchase anti-virus type software and install it on your computer.
- Adjust the settings of your anti-virus software according to the type of email software you have and set it up to automatically scan all your incoming attachments and Internet downloads.
- Set your anti-virus software to automatically check for updates.
Most major anti-virus software are designed to update their software automatically when you go online. Anti-virus protection requires regular updates for protection against new virus threats that are discovered.
- Make sure all attachments are being scanned by your anti-virus protection software and NEVER open any attachment from a stranger.
- If you are getting anti-virus protection for the very first time, use your newly installed software to scan all your files on all hard drives.
Most registered software can be purchased for around $40 - $70.
